We are the English language school number 1274. It is located in Dubrovskaya St., not far from the centre of Moscow. The school is named after Vladimir Mayakovsky and we have a museum dedicated to this great Russian poet.

The school building is not modern but it has been redecorated recently. We have two gyms, a canteen and two workshops on the ground floor.

We are especially proud of our school because of a unique Mayakovsky museum which is on the second floor.

The museum has a rich collection of books about the life of the poet, poems and plays written by him that were published in different languages.

Members of the Mayakovsky museum-club traditionally gather in the museum once a week to discuss the upcoming events. There is a school Assembly Hall on the fourth floor where the main of these school events take place. The whole school gathers in the Assembly Hall to mark great national events as well.

In Russia children are admitted to school at the age of 7. They study English beginning from the second year till the graduation. The school day runs from 8.30 AM until 3 PM. We have 22 classes at school. The average number of students in each class is about 30 but the class is divided into 3 groups for their English lessons.

Our school is about 50 years old and that is why it has a lot of exciting traditions. Every year we celebrate the anniversary of our school museum. It's a great event and all classes prepare for it. This year we are celebrating the 39 th anniversary of our museum-club. On that day many guests will come to our school: writers, poets and actors. A lot of exhibits and books devoted to Mayakovsky will be given to the museum.

There is another tradition in our school: quizes are regularly arranged. Reporters, writers, poets, sportsmen and popular actors come to our school to answer the students' questions on science, history, space, art, literature, love, politics and economy.

One of the greatest events of the year is the English week, which is held in January. Students take part in:

•  Recitation Competition

•  Verse Translation Competition

•  Amateur Concert

The winners of the competition and the best amateur actors are awarded with special prizes.

Our school is experienced in arranging student exchanges with different countries. We have school partners in Great Britain, the USA, and Germany.

The students are fond of travelling and have visited a lot of cities throughout Russia as well as different foreign countries.

We are all proud of our school!
